The Dyslexic Adult

The Dyslexic Adult

In short, I am not stupid! In fact, I’m a dyslexic adult and misunderstood.

Dyslexia that is a reading and writing problem?

However, it is my

  • Superpower…
  • Creative Strength…
  • Ability to Overcome Complex Problems…
  • Comfort Blanket…
  • Social Isolation…
  • Embarrassment…
  • Frustration…
  • Dirty Secret…

“In other words, this is my life! It makes me the most amazing creative person as well as a failure all at the same time.”

Right?

Social Misfit

However, no matter how much I try to fit in with society my dyslexia is there to trip me up.

Now turn left… Not that left your other left…
  • Now turn left…
  • Not that left your other left…
  • You will learn everything you need to know from the following documents…
  • No why? are you taking so long this is simple stuff!
  • Now, remember the email from last week…

“I might have a better chance of remembering my Chinese Takeaway than last week’s email.”

A moment of inspiration takes you and then you write down the diver went in the obese.

Only recently I put on Facebook I was looking forward to seeing my friend doing some flamenco dancing but put flamingo instead! Ooooooops!

Oh, you poor disadvantaged person! Ehhh No I am not thanks very much, I have an amazing gift. At this point, you can see the person is confused and their body language is saying get the straight jacket, medication and a wee yellow bus. The poor lassie needs locking up for her own protection she is a looney! This is where you have the advantage as they do not know much about dyslexia. All the amazing things about out of the box thinking has done in history and is still for the world today.

Dyslexic Adult Creatives

If Thomas Edison had not been dyslexic would we have a light bulb? Alexander Graham Bell would we have the telephone? Henry Ford gave us the first production line. Walt Disney gave us Mickey Mouse and Disneyland. Brilliant scientist Albert Einstein and Steven Hawkins, Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock. Sports Mohammad Ali, Jackie Stewart, Lewis Hamilton. World leaders Winston Churchill, John F Kennedy. Business people Steve Jobs, Richard Branston, Sir Alan Sugar. Writers like Agatha Christie Roald Dahl. Actors and Actresses such as Tom Cruise, Robin Williams, Will Smith, Whoopi Goldberg and Keira Knightley. Iconic pop stars Cher and John Lennon Imagine!

Sucker Punch

I keep hearing that I will never amount to anything. Cannot ever achieve that goal since I am dyslexic. Should focus more and stop being slow and lazy even though I come across as a bright person. I forever carry a target on my back and get blamed for a lot of things! I put my hands up if I have made a mistake, but some of the things I get blamed for are plain stupid, but it will always be my fault. Everyone picks up when you have had a bad day and not come across properly. This is frustrating for all parties. Even being human sometimes is hard. You’re not allowed to be happy, sad, frustrated, angry, or stressed because you’re wired another way. Go and sit in the corner, be quiet with the D hat on your head!

Get Back Up Again

So okay I have an educational disability, this does not make me a stupid person. I’m a dyslexic adult and misunderstood. I love learning however I find it hard to learn the same way as everyone else. Words and numbers can cause issues. Creatively my family and friends love reading my articles, enjoy my cooking and bits of art I create. There is so much out there to help dyslexia nothing should hold you back. Be your own superhero.
